Saturday Stroll

After a mad morning of loading up at Costco, Sergio and I decided to spend the rest of the day relaxing in Condesa. Colonia Condesa, according to one of our books, has one of the best preserved collections of art deco buildings anywhere and it appears to have a lion's share of the happening restaurants/night life too. The neighborhood dates to about 1925, and has two lovely parks and wonderfully walkable boulevards.

Lots of mosaic exteriors...

This is a 1937 Luis Barragan we stumbled on:

After our hurried architectural tour and spin through Parque Mexico (it looked like rain! which it does pretty much every late afternoon...) we sat down to eat at El Tizconcito which claims to have invented pastor tacos. The pastor was really good, but we agreed that the taco truck outside the Embassy is giving it a run for its money.

Me being the opposite of "La Morena" (check the sign). More La Ghoulie Girl. This strip of restaurants and bars is particularly lively.

This guy had a super cool look, and the fact that he was pretty much sound asleep in front of this design shop made him look even cooler. I guess we woke him up with our camera flash. After seeing this, I kinda want one of these Acapulco chairs. And to roll up my pants and wear penny loafers!

The best part of the day: ice cream cones at Helados Roxy which has been operated by the same family since 1946. All kinds of handmade flavors. We are going back for one of the great looking sundaes next time.

the architecture is so incredible. i especially love the door. think one day we can all live in a unique abode specially designed for us? wouldn't it be nice to be rich like that? or, maybe just talented enough to design our own funky house.
