La Merced

We finally took the metro down to La Merced, the mother of all markets, on Sunday. It has been operating in the same area since the 17th Century and has over 10,000 stalls with all kinds of foods and restaurant supplies. We came home with a giant aluminum juicer, oranges, limes, garlic, carrots, onions, and avocados. The prices were much better than the supermarket or our neighborhood farmers' market, and the whole place looked and smelled terrific. Here's a peek:

just beautiful!

i love all the markets in central and south america - the produce is incredible. but moreso, the bartering and interactions with people are fascinating.

what is a "pastor" taco?

Well, Sergio and I love pastor. We served it at the wedding party. It is pretty much always pork and it looks like gyro. Here's the wiki on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taco_al_pastor
